ENT for children and adults

ENT consultations with endoscopic examination, for children and adults

About the service

ENT (otorhinolaryngology) deals with conditions of the ears, nose, sinuses, throat and larynx. A consultation at Sonar Clinic includes a history, an ENT examination and — where indicated — a fibre-optic endoscopic examination and tympanometry, so most of the diagnostics can be completed in a single visit.

We see patients of all ages: from newborns and infants, through children, to adults and seniors. Hearing tests carried out during the visit, ear irrigation and removal of a foreign body are included in the price of the consultation. Consultations are private, without a referral. They are provided by doctors in specialty training in otorhinolaryngology and paediatric ENT, who work together with the hearing diagnostics lab, so a patient with an abnormal hearing test result can go straight to a consultation.

ENT consultation for children

The visit includes a history taken from the parent, an examination of the ears, nose and throat and — when needed — fibre-optic endoscopy, i.e. looking at the nose, adenoids and larynx with a thin, flexible endoscope. A small-diameter fibre-optic endoscope also makes it possible to examine newborns and infants. The examination is brief and is carried out in a way suited to the child’s age. Where indicated, the doctor performs tympanometry, which assesses the middle ear (e.g. the presence of effusion); hearing tests during the visit and ear irrigation are included in the price of the consultation.

The most common reasons for a visit: recurrent ear and throat infections, enlarged adenoids, mouth breathing, snoring, suspected hearing loss, delayed speech development.

ENT consultation for adults

The consultation includes a history, an ENT examination and, where indicated, an endoscopic examination of the nose, throat and larynx, tympanometry and ear irrigation (e.g. for impacted earwax). The doctor discusses the findings and sets out the next steps: treatment, additional tests or a referral for hospital treatment.

Typical reasons for a visit: worsening hearing, a feeling of a blocked ear, tinnitus, dizziness, chronic runny nose and sinusitis, hoarseness lasting more than 2–3 weeks, recurrent throat infections, lesions in the mouth.

When not to delay a visit

Sudden hearing loss in one ear, especially with tinnitus or dizziness, requires an urgent ENT consultation, ideally within 1–3 days. Urgent assessment is also needed for: severe ear pain with fever, discharge from the ear, an injury to the ear or nose with bleeding, difficulty breathing or swallowing, hoarseness lasting more than 3 weeks, and a lesion in the mouth or on the neck that does not go away.

Procedures and histopathological examination

On an outpatient basis, the doctors remove small lesions in the mouth, throat and nose. The scope and price of the procedure depend on the size of the lesion and the degree of difficulty, so a quote is given individually after the consultation. The removed lesion can be sent for histopathological examination.

Current prices of consultations and procedures are listed in the price list.

FAQ

FAQ — ENT for children and adults

Do I need a referral for an ENT consultation?

No. ENT consultations at Sonar Clinic are private and do not require a referral. You can book an appointment online or by phone.

What is a fibre-optic endoscopy and does it hurt?

It is an examination of the nose, throat and larynx with a thin, flexible endoscope passed through the nose. It is brief and is usually felt as tickling or slight discomfort. In children it is carried out in a way suited to their age.

Will the ENT doctor test my hearing?

During the consultation the doctor may perform tympanometry. Full hearing tests (audiometry, otoacoustic emissions, ABR) are performed by an audiologist in the hearing diagnostics lab at Sonar Clinic; the doctor refers for them if needed.

What should I bring to an ENT visit?

The results of previous hearing tests and imaging, records of treatment to date and a list of medications you take. For a child, it is worth bringing the health booklet.

What is included in the price of an ENT consultation?

The ENT examination, endoscopic examination (fibre-optic endoscopy) as indicated, hearing tests carried out during the visit, ear irrigation and removal of a foreign body. Procedures to remove lesions and histopathological examination are charged separately.

Are ENT consultations available for infants?

Yes. The doctors providing ENT consultations at Sonar Clinic examine patients from the newborn period; a small-diameter fibre-optic endoscope makes it possible to assess the nose, throat and ears in infants as well.
